What is this register and how can I use it?

Some patients on high risk drugs have their monitoring managed in secondary care rather than by the practice. The High Risk Drug Monitoring in Secondary Care Register gives you a clean, code-driven way to identify these patients so they can be excluded from your high risk drug monitoring recalls.

This register is:

Which patients are included?

Patients are added to the register when they have any of the following codes:

• High risk drug monitoring – secondary care (205811000000106)
• Disease modifying antirheumatic drug monitored in secondary care (494341000000104)
• Anticoagulation monitoring in secondary care (199761000000102)

Patients are removed from the register when they have any of the following codes:

• High risk drug monitoring – primary care (205791000000105)
• Disease modifying antirheumatic drug monitored in primary care (494311000000100)
• Anticoagulation monitoring in primary care (279231000000108)
• High risk drug monitoring – shared care (205801000000109)

In short, a secondary care code adds a patient to the register, and a later primary care or shared care code takes them off, so the register stays current as monitoring responsibility changes.

How do I use it as an exclusion register?

When setting up or editing a high risk drug monitoring recall, add the High Risk Drug Monitoring in Secondary Care Register as an exclusion. Patients on this register will then be automatically removed from the recall population, so invitations only go to patients your practice is responsible for monitoring.

How do I switch it on?

You will find this register in the User Management Portal, under:

Rules Management →  Register → Recall and Monitoring status

It's typically enabled by default, but you can confirm it's toggled On, then apply it as an exclusion within your relevant recalls.
