Using the Flu Vaccine Decline Questionnaire to Understand Patient Preferences
๐งญ What Is the Flu Vaccine Questionnaire?
The Flu Vaccine Questionnaire is designed to help practices gather valuable insights into patients' preferences regarding flu vaccination. By sending this questionnaire to patients who have not yet received their flu vaccine, practices can:
- Identify reasons for low uptake, including patients who have declined the vaccine.
- Record and code patient responses directly into the Electronic Health Record
- Allow you to focus on eligible patients that are still interested in a flu vaccine
- Tailor future campaigns based on patient feedback
This supports more personalised care and helps improve vaccination rates by addressing barriers and concerns.
๐ Who Should Receive It?
You can send the Flu Vaccine Questionnaire to any patient who is eligible for flu vaccination but has not yet received it.
This includes patients marked as Opportunistic (Amber) or Overdue (Red) in your Proactive Monitoring Tool (PMT).
๐ How Does This Look to Patients?
When patients receive the Flu Vaccine Questionnaire, it appears as a simple and user-friendly message designed to gather their preferences regarding flu vaccination.
๐ ๏ธ How to Set It Up
To send the Flu Decline Questionnaire, follow these steps:
- Go to the Population Tab in PMT.
- In the Indication filter, type "flu" and select the relevant cohorts you'd like to target.
- In the Task filter, select Influenza Vaccination.
- In the Task Status, choose Opportunistic and Overdue.
- Add any exclusions as needed (e.g. Care Home patients).
Once the table displays the correct cohort of patients, you can use one of the following functions:
- Bulk Message
- Enter the message content you'd like to send to patients.
- Scroll down and select Flu Vaccine Questionnaire.
- This will send a one-off message to all selected patients.
- Automated Recall
-
- Press +Add Recall to set up a recall that includes the questionnaire.
- In the Messaging section, choose to include the Flu Vaccine Questionnaire.
- This will allow you to automatically identify and message patients based on the settings chosen by your practice.
๐งพ SNOMED Coding
Patient responses to the Flu Vaccine Questionnaire are automatically coded using SNOMED codes once you have accepted and saved the result from the response email. This ensures accurate documentation in the patient's Electronic Health Record (EHR) and supports clinical decision-making.
