⚙️ Associated Monitoring Rules

To use the Average Home BP Questionnaire for patients with hypertension, or those with a blood pressure reading of 140/90 mmHg or above who are not on the Hypertension Register, you’ll first need to enable the relevant monitoring rules that include Average Home Blood Pressure as a task. 

To enable the Average Blood Pressure Monitoring rules:

  1. Open the User Management Portal.
  2. Select your practice from the left hand menu then head over to Rules Management 
  3. Search for and enable the following rules:
    • HYP – AHBP annually: Identifies patients with hypertension who are due their annual Average Home Blood Pressure reading (excluding patients that have previously declined home blood pressure monitoring).
    • Raised BP but not on HTN register – ABPM: Identifies patients with a blood pressure reading of 140/90 mmHg or above who are not currently on the Hypertension Register and have not had an ABPM recorded within the past six months (excluding patients that have previously declined home blood pressure monitoring)

🔍 How the Average Home Blood Pressure is calculated

The average blood pressure calculation excludes the first day's readings (i.e. the first two sets of values provided, as recommended by NICE guidelines) and uses the average value of all the remaining systolic and diastolic home readings provided by the patient, rounded up to the nearest integer value.

For example, for a 5-day reading:

Reading 1 (Day 1): 101 / 71 mmHg

Reading 2 (Day 1): 102 / 72 mmHg

Reading 3 (Day 2): 103 / 73 mmHg

Reading 4 (Day 2): 104 / 74 mmHg

Reading 5 (Day 3): 105 / 75 mmHg

Reading 6 (Day 3): 106 / 76 mmHg

Reading 7 (Day 4): 107 / 77 mmHg

Reading 8 (Day 4): 108 / 78 mmHg

Reading 9 (Day 5): 109 / 79 mmHg

Reading 10 (Day 5): 110 / 80 mmHg

The average blood pressure is calculated using readings 3 to 10 i.e. 107 / 77 mmHg.
