We've put together a list of common recalls used by practices, along with quick-start links to get you set up faster. Ready to build your own? See our step-by-step setup guide.

Before diving in, review Rules Management to make sure the tool is configured for the monitoring your practice needs. For example, if you'd like to recall patients with CKD for annual bloods, the associated rules will need to be enabled first.

Beyond reminders: what you can send

Recalls don't have to be a simple "please book in" message. Depending on what the cohort needs, you can:

• Attach a questionnaire - e.g. blood pressure, an asthma control test or a body mass index (BMI) questionnaire, so patients can self-report without needing an appointment
• Include an appointment link - e.g. a blood test or flu vaccine appointment, so patients can book directly rather than phoning in
• Send information - e.g. smoking cessation advice, where the goal is patient education rather than booking a review

Quick-start links

These links open a pre-filtered population directly in the Abtrace tool. Because they use the Abtrace app protocol, they can't be clicked - you'll need to copy and paste each one into your browser address bar.

How to use:

1. Copy the entire link for the recall you want to build
2. Paste it into your browser address bar and press Enter
3. The tool will open with filters pre-applied - amend as needed
4. Click + Add Recall to begin setup

⭐ Featured example - SGLT2 Drug Safety Advice

A good first recall is one that doesn't require appointments. SGLT2 Drug Safety Advice is a popular choice. CQC advises that patients on SGLT2 inhibitors should receive advice on the risk of Fournier's Gangrene and Diabetic Ketoacidosis.

• Once set up, the recall runs weekly and automatically excludes patients who have already received the advice and had it coded.

1. In the Indications tab, search for SGLT2 inhibitors.
2. In the Tasks tab, search for Education about Fournier's Gangrene and Education about ketoacidosis.
3. Set the status to Overdue.
4. Create the recall, adding the SNOMED codes during Step 7 of the recall setup e.g. Education about Fournier's Gangrene and Education about diabetic ketoacidosis

Example patient message (check with your clinical team before using):
Our records show you are taking Empagliflozin/Canagliflozin/Dapagliflozin. Patients on these medications must receive drug safety advice. Seek urgent medical help if you experience pain, tenderness, redness, or swelling in the genital or perineal area, especially with fever or malaise. Watch for signs of diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA): nausea, vomiting, fast breathing, abdominal pain, unusual drowsiness, or fruity-smelling breath. If you develop any of these symptoms, please contact the surgery.
